When I think of the best things for families to do in St Maarten, my list is long!

I am standing in front of a beach that in my opinion is one of the most spectacular displays of beautiful water I’ve ever seen in all my travels.

I’m at a town called Philipsburg on the Dutch side of St Maarten.

The town is built right on the shores of the beach in an area called Great Bay.

Great Bay literally looks like someone turned on a light switch underneath the water.  No, I’m not kidding.

So if you like beautiful water, you may wish to take a trip down here.

Of all the beaches I’ve ever seen, the water in Great Bay has to be some of the most beautiful I’ve seen anywhere I’ve ever traveled.

When you drive down the roads in St Maarten, you’ll see little roadside stands with vendors selling all sorts of local goods.

There is also a lot of outdoor dining so if you like that (my family does) you’ll enjoy St Maarten.

Other than Great Bay, there are several other beautiful beaches in St Maarten.

In addition to beaches, there are all sorts of water sports also.

There’s boating, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing trips, wind surfing and if you’re really adventurous there’s also kite surfing.

Personally, I didn’t have the nerve for kite surfing as it literally lifts you up out of the water, but it did look like fun.

If you drive toward Orient beach and go to the butterfly farm, there is a beach there called Le Galion.

Le Galion is especially great for children as the water is extremely calm at this beach, so my kids loved it there.

Speaking of the butterfly farm, the butterfly farm had over 300 species of butterflies.

This place kind of surprised me.

I was expecting it to be sort of rinky-dink, however I was mistaken.

The place was amazing!  I had no idea there were so many species of butterflies.

With all the different species of butterflies and all the different colors, my children were fascinated in this place.

If you have children, make sure you take one afternoon and take them to the butterfly farm, and while you’re there you can visit Le Galion Beach!

One of our favorite places for dinner was a restaurant called  Skip Jacks.

They have Lobster in Skip Jacks that weigh anywhere from 5lbs up to 15lbs!

They were the biggest lobster I had ever seen by far.

After you choose your lobster and they grill it, they then serve it with vegetables and salad making for a delicious meal the likes of which would compare to any fine restaurant anywhere.

The water in St Maarten is some of the most beautiful you will ever see.

So when someone asks me what are the best things for families to do in St Maarten, I always think of the beautiful beaches!

We spent a lot of time on the beaches and the beach made for some great family time.

We made a lot of “lifetime memories” (you know the kind that last you 20-30-40 years) which in my opinion are priceless.

You will definitely make lifetime memories on a vacation to St Maarten because the time you spend together as a family is wonderful.

On this particular trip we stayed at a resort called the Flamingo Resort, but we have access to 14 resorts on the island under discount contract rates.

So if you’re looking for a place to take your family in a beautiful condo in a beautiful setting with magnificent water and where you can make lifetime memories as a family, you absolutely cannot go wrong with St Maarten.

It is one of my very favorite islands in the Caribbean.
