Welcome to Sedona Arizona!
Sedona Arizona first came to be when a man named T.C. Snebling was one of 5 families living in the region with his wife.
Mr. Snebling applied to be the postmaster for the region.
The first submitted the name “Snebling’s Crossing” but it was rejected because he was told that the name was too long to fit on the postage stamp.
Mr. Snebling’s brother suggested that he submit his wife’s name Sedona.
The postmaster general liked the name because it was short enough to fit on the stamp, and Mr. Snebling liked it because the town was named after his wife, Sedona.
And that is how Sedona came to be in 1902.
Sedona is a beautiful area full of towering red cliffs that surround the entire area and is quite unique in the US.
Just north of Sedona about 3-4 miles is a place called The Trout Farm.
You can bring your children and they can go trout fishing with big bamboo fishing poles in ponds that are stocked by the farm.
Each child catches a fish which is very exciting for the children!
So if you have children very young to teenagers, the trout farm is a very fun way to spend an afternoon!
My other favorite thing I took my children to was a place called Slide Rock state park about 5 miles north of Sedona located in Oak Creek Canyon.
For children and/or young adults, this is a must do!
This was one of the most fun things I did with my children. My daughter was a little nervous as she was just 6 years old and the water was quite fast, but my son absolutely loved it!
It is a natural rock formation where the water has smoothed out the rocks to form a natural rock sliding board in the creek water!
You start at the top and slide all the way down through the creek to the bottom, and then go back up and do it again!
The water is crystal clear, fresh right from the melted snow of the mountain.
It is so fun!!
I think this was my children’s favorite thing we did our entire time in Sedona.
It’s really fun for the kids and one of the great things for families to do
when in Sedona!
