I went to Machu Picchu Peru with my World Access Pass,
(see travelinsiderz.com main site) this past August to one of the most amazing and spiritual places I’ve ever visited.

This ancient city was fascinating and I highly recommend it if you’ve never been there.

It is located in the country of Peru, in South America.

You fly from Lima the capital 1 hour to a city called Cusco. From Cusco you take a bus for 2 hours to a glass dome train which in itself is fantastic!

Then on the train for 2 more hours to a town called Aguas Caliente (which means hot water). Aguas Caliente is a small town with local hot springs at the base of the mountain upon which Machu Picchu is built.

From Aguas Caliente you take another bus for about 30 minutes to the top of the mountain which holds Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu was built around by the Inca indians around the year 1400 A.D.

They originally built it to escape the invading spainsh forces that were conquering their country.

The Incas were only there about 150 years and then they left and no one really knows why they left. So there is a bit of a mystical place and also a spiritual place.

Machu Picchu is built at an elevation of 8,000-9,000 feet. I discovered just how high that was when I was trying to hike in. I had to stop a couple of times just to catch my breath!

The tops of the mountains literally touch the clouds. It is truly an amazing sight.

There are shelves that they built all along the sides of the mountain that they used for farming and natural springs for their water supply.

Machu Picchu is a HUGE city on the top of a mountain, and it’s a place I’ve always wanted to go since I was a kid.

I remember reading about it in my “Mysterys of the Unexplained” book I had when I was young and always had it on my bucket list!

There are also Llama’s just freely walking around all over the place.

Llama are very gentle animals with such sweet faces and I counted at least 18 the day I was there. I think they were put there to keep the grass in check, kind of like natural lawn mowers! hahaha At least that’s what one of the guides told me.

Machu Picchu has dramatic scenery! Some of the most dramatic I’ve ever seen.

I absolutely loved it there.

It’s one of the 7 wonders of the modern world.

And it’s certainly one for the bucket list for sure!
